The UCI Philosophy is Collective
Ujima Consortium, Inc (UCI) is African-Centered, and guided by a philosophy that seeks to nurture and encourage the development of people of African ancestry. We strive to connect them with the rich, and diverse historical and cultural legacies of African peoples as a means of restoring a world view which reflects an understanding of the inter dependence of humans, plants, animals, and the natural elements that create the delicate balance which sustains life on the planet earth.
We believe that systems, circumstances, or behaviors that serve to limit the fullest realization of human potential, should be corrected. Ultimately, such correction should focus on ways of relating spirituality, socially, politically and economically while facilitating peace, prosperity, health, happiness, and maximum human development.
Our African-centered perspective provides a window through which people of African ancestry can look inward and outward, simultaneously, at the myriad expressions of human culture. Our African-centered perspective is not restricted, or focused narrowly on the study of Africa and African people. However, from a unique vantage point, we do view the experiences of people of African ancestry as being of primary importance to the study the world, its history, peoples, and cultures. Our approach is holistic, structured to stimulate intellect growth, promote physical health and well being, and encourage the development of spiritual and cultural awareness.
The UCI Mission is Work
It is the mission of UCI to develop and provide African-centered training, programs, and information for the betterment of people of African ancestry, and others of good will, in the interest of the African world community. To fulfill this mission, our work will:
- Nurture the mental, physical, and spiritual development of children.
- Instill the love for self and others.
- Develop leaders for the functional transformation in a global social and economic order.
- Maintain an African-centered perspective consistent with the highest traditions of African culture.
- Adhere to a value system imbued with a sense of integrity and morality.
- Develop intuition, creativity, emotional health, and character strength.
- Promote the mastery of skills that facilitate achievement of excellence.
- Be guided by the Seven Principles of Nguzo Saba, and the Seven Cardinal Virtues of Maat.
Finally, our mission is consistent with the ancients who believed that the process of learning and development draws out that which is inherent in us. Our efforts are meant to serve as a catalyst in the self-discovery process and journey to self-realization. Ujima Consortium, Inc. is a supportive guide that provides information and experience. In Divine Order, we strive to nurture the growth of knowledge in both the individual and collective self. Our mission, like "the circle is forever; never leaving itself, and always returning to itself. Let the circle be unbroken"*
